bring on the fall

What's new?

Real quick. Hurricane Katrina was a disaster that was not handled in the most proficient manner. I know. Brown was a terrible head of FEMA, but it wasn't all his fault. The governor of Louisiana and the mayor of New Orleans have been on TV non-stop screaming about the president's failure. Why is this? The president was in N.O. 2 days BEFORE the hurricane to get some estimate of what it might cost. The extremely vocal governor, however, (for whatever reason, political or otherwise) told the president no monetary aid or evacuation assistance would be necessary. This is quite odd, to say the least. N.O. has an evacuation plan for those who could not afford a car or bus/plane ticket out of the city. The city spent a few million on buses to leave the city before the hurricane hit. Where are they now? under 4 feet of water.
Why was the money and assistance refused? Why did the evacuation plan not get carried out? Why did it take the governor 4 full days AFTER the hurricane to ask for disaster relief funds?
I am, by any stretch, saying the president did a great job.....far from it. The government dropped the ball, but it was across the board. The president deserves blame, but the governor of LA and mayor of N.O. share and equal amount.....despite all of this, all I see on TV is one of those two telling me why I should hate the guy that tried to offer funds in advance. Again, I'm not even sticking up for Bush. I'm just absolutely puzzled.

My mom, on her way home from her HS reunion in Michigan, dropped into your friendly, neighborhood Funcie Meijer and surprised the sweet crap outta me. Now she's in Vegas. At the Venetian (newest, biggest, everything-est casino there). For free. She called me today from the main floor of the casino to tell me how great her life is. I didn't hear a word of it though, as I was at work searching for some towels to clean up my OJ spill in the dairy aisle. It was at that moment I wanted to hang myself. At what point did my MOM lead a way more exciting life than me? I'm gonna try to trade in this whole "grown up" thing for a few more years of video games and pre-algebra homework.

Hey, my house is better than yours. I come home from work Wednesday: new hot tub. I come home from work Saturday: new ballroom-style black and white tile floor in the beer pong room. I come home from work tonight: new bar from a knocked out wall in the beer pong room. Adam Dorner's dad (my BOY) is gonna hook us up with a tower, thus giving us a working tap on the bar. Mr. Trosky might even give us a signed/framed jersey from his old NHL days with the Canucks if I head back to Carmel this week. The roommates just decided in a hurry that our house needs to be remodeled. Sweet.

Hockey. October 5th. salary caps, shootouts, no red lines, and smaller goalie pads galore!

Also, I suck at drunk driver (the card game mom). I set the current record for "same card" occurences with 6 in a single round. That being said, the Baker - Shane beef lives on. You just wait till this weekend. I've got something ESPECIALE for you, my friend.

The Baker/Rodick 'pongin squad absolutely embarassed Dorner and Pine on Thursday......twice, with a few lesser opponents devoured in between. Better luck next week everybody.

Homecoming. October 15th. Ball State v. Toledo, but the real competition will be the Homecoming Beer & Badminton (beerminton) tournament earlier in the day. Grab a partner and challenge the resident Labor Day champion. (THIS guy).

Michigan is out of the rankings now, and the rest of the Big 10 looks tough, but hey, like I said, I have a hot tub and hockey starts soon.

Mom, always double down on 11.
